The time has come to pack up all our summer minidresses and swim looks and pull out our jackets and boots for fall. I know—I’m sad about it, too, but there’s always exciting energy in the air that comes when the seasons change. Fall feels like the start of something new. For those of us in New York City, it’s the time of year when everyone who has retreated to their summer homes returns to the city and long vacations away come to an end, and the city is back in full swing.

Kids go back to school, college students move into dorms, and it’s chilly enough to wrap yourself in a chic sweater and sit in the West Village wine tasting with friends. And of course, for those of us who work in fashion, it’s the beginning of fashion month, starting with New York Fashion Week. There’s just something about New York in the fall, from the leaves changing in Central Park to my favorite restaurants adding hot toddies to their cocktail menus. Deep down, I’m a summer girl, but fall is a close second. If I’m being completely honest, I’m ready to trade my sweet little summer dresses for cashmere sweaters and suede boots. As you may have guessed, I’m already planning looks left and right, and five outfit formulas stood out to me as no-brainer ensembles I’ll be wearing all season.

Keep scrolling to see the five looks I can’t wait to wear all fall.

This look is probably my ultimate go-to for fall. A sweaterdress just feels so cozy yet sophisticated and dressy. When it comes to a knit dress, I tend to gravitate toward tighter-fitting silhouettes. The gold jewelry is really just the cherry on top—it takes the look to the next level. This is a great look for a dinner date, a day at the office, fall brunch, a friend meetup, etc.

A leather jacket is a fall and winter staple that you can just never go wrong with. I have a feeling we’re going to be seeing lots of distressed, heavy leather jackets with a vintage touch this season, like the one we see on Emma Leger above. Style with sneakers and denim for a cool, casual look.

This is probably my favorite look of the five. The thing about a great miniskirt set with boots is that it’s so chic and adorable, but you only have a few weeks of fall to wear it without tights before it gets too chilly for mini hemlines. So you’ll catch me wearing this adorable look as long as I can get away with it.

This is the perfect casual weekend look for fall. Whether you’re traveling for a fall getaway or heading to a low-key brunch with your friends, this look is foolproof. This season, bomber jackets are definitely back, and I have to say I’m happy about it.

I’m so into this look, it’s my go-to when planning a look for meeting friends for dinner or drinks during the fall. Just because it’s fall doesn’t mean you have to hang up all of your crop tops, styling them with a pair of trousers and a loafer is the perfect way to do cropped for fall. I would recommend even reaching for something that’s cropped and knit, best of both worlds. When it gets a little colder you can always throw a bomber jacket or trench over this.
